RESULT EXPECTATIONS
Most patients see results roughly 4-6 weeks following treatment*. Since everyone’s chin profile is different, the number of treatments varies from patient to patient. During your consultation, we can determine how many treatment sessions you need based on the amount and distribution of your submental fat and personal treatment goals.
HOW DOES IT WORK?
During your consultation, we will determine if you are a good candidate for correction using KYBELLA®. The procedure is fairly straightforward, first, we determine the proper treatment spots for the injection and see where you are in need of the most correction. Then we simply prepare for the injection. Once the KYBELLA® solution is injected, you may feel a burning or tingling sensation, which is completely normal and should pass within a few minutes.
The KYBELLA® solution contains acids identical to the deoxycholic acid in your body. Deoxycholic acid is meant to destroy fat cells. KYBELLA® acts in the same way, directing your fat cells to undergo “cellular death”, eliminating them completely, as they are flushed out as a natural waste produced by the body.

KYBELLA® FAQs
How long do results last?
When injected into the fat under the chin, KYBELLA® causes the destruction of fat cells. Once destroyed, those cells cannot store or accumulate fat*. After reaching your desired results, further treatment is not expected. It is important to note that not all of your fat cells are destroyed in the treated area so it is possible to regain fat in the treated area with the remaining cells*.
What if there is subsequent weight gain?
Patients in the clinical studies who experienced weight gain after their treatment did not see a return of their submental fullness. However, since KYBELLA® does not get rid of all fat cells in the treated area it is possible to regain fat in the area.
How is KYBELLA® administered?
KYBELLA® is administered through multiple small injections under your chin which takes about 15-20 minutes. The exact number of injections will depend on the amount of fat you have under your chin and your desired profile.
What do I need to know after the treatment?
KYBELLA® is the safest, minimally-invasive method of reducing submental chin fat and alleviating patients of their double-chin.
Despite the relatively simple procedure, KYBELLA® does require some minor downtime for recovery. The procedure takes about an hour to complete, and some patients should expect minor swelling or bruising, for up to a week after (most swelling will subside within the first 48 hours). We recommend that patients:
- Stay hydrated, before and after the procedure
- Avoid salt and alcohol, before and after the procedure to reduce chances of swelling
- Apply ice to the treatment area for the first few hours after completion
- Try and schedule procedures during a weekend, vacation, or time off – as they may need a day or two to rest and reduce any swelling that may appear
What are the side effects of KYBELLA®?
Most patients experience some swelling, bruising, or numbness under their chin. Moderate discomfort is common and typically lasts for several hours to several days. The swelling and bruising can last up to 4 weeks. If you develop an uneven smile, facial muscle weakness or difficulty swallowing, inform us.
What other options exist to reduce submental fat?
Aside from KYBELLA®, the only other effective treatments to reduce under the chin fat are surgery or liposuction.
What is the evidence that KYBELLA® works?
KYBELLA®’s FDA approval was based on two clinical trials involving more than a thousand patients with moderate to severe fat who received injections of either KYBELLA® or a placebo. Patients who received KYBELLA® saw a noticeable and cosmetically significant reduction of submental fat compared to patients that received that placebo.
